Hanover — After three straight road games on grass, the Marauders got back to turf hockey and moved past the Royals with an overtime goal from Diana Schwarz.

Maddie Wallace set up the score seven minutes into the 15-minute extra session with a cross from the right side, Schwarz converting with a reverse-stick tap. Sophie Cardenali stopped one shot for the win, to which sisters Macy and Hannah Curtis assisted with their play in the middle of the field.

Hannah Curtis was playing her first game of the season, having been out since the preseason with stress fractures in her shins, according to Hanover coach Jean Essex.

“They were fast, and they had some good stick skills,” Essex said of Mascoma (5-3-1). “It was nice for us, the first time on (turf) in four or five days.”

Abby Duhaime excelled in the Royals’ net, making nine saves.

“Overall, it was a strong team effort,” Mascoma coach Jenn Hammond said. “We’re Division III; to be able to play a D-II school like Hanover and force them to overtime, it was a good game.”

Mascoma goes to Newfound on Friday. Hanover is off until a Tuesday home date with Derryfield.
